Some parts of the procedure:

• To get divorced you must get a High Court Order. Only the High Court can grant a divorce.
• A summons must be issued and served on the other party by the Deputy Sheriff.
• If children are involved there are issues that the Family Advocate needs to approve.
• There must be a Court Appearance by at least one of the parties.
• There should be an agreement that deals with finances and children.

There is no easy way to have the paper work dealt with. Do not fall prey to the many people who offer cheap divorces. Most of them will take your money and give you forms to fill in. By the time you realise that you need professional assistance,  your mistakes may have cost a great deal more than you were told at first. You start out trying to save a few hundred Rand and find that you have compromised your financial position for many years to come.
